A week spent in Northumberland with my brother to see a few exhibitions he’s been involved with was inspirational in many ways and has pushed me forward in thinking about my own work.

Red Squirrels at Formby Point
On a recent visit to Formby Point it was good to see that the red squirrels are recovering well. In recent years they were virtually wiped out here by the squirrel pox, a disease carried by the non indigenous grey squirrel.
New Calendar for 2014
The new calendar for 2014 is finally on its way! (check out the 2012 one here – 2013 we missed due to my illness!) We’ve already cancelled two dates due to very unseasonal weather but today we were lucky and the weather was ideal for the work we had planned.
Heading South – The Final Chapter
A day late we headed south and the weather didn’t let us down – it rained! By now we were wanting it to, better to be able to say we had seventeen days with rain, heavy at that, on every single one of them.
Calendar 2012 – New 2013 Calendar Planned
I’m back posting for a while! Still have a big op to come up in the early spring but will try and move things on a little by then.
The 2012 calendar has been out since January 1st and has been met with enthusiasm from all quarters. The quality of the images we had to choose from was very high and I’d like to thank all those involved and for sending their images on to me. It was a lovely project to have worked on and as a result of its success we’ve been asked to do another one for 2013!
Update on the Calendar Project
Another walk, another set of images, and we are moving at a pace towards creating the 2012 calendar from the work generated from all those who have come on the walks.
‘Edgelands’ Seaforth
Edgelands
There’s been a lot of coverage lately relating to a new book by two North West poets, Paul Farley and Michael Symmons Roberts. Its entitiled Edgelands. As they state in the introduction it’s not a new concept but the interest in bringing the whole idea of this ‘unruly and chaotic’ space back into the public arena has generated a lot of creative activity.
New Calendar Project – Get Involved!
It’s a while since my last post and I’ll explain how the new site will work and the type of articles and blogs that I’ll be writing next time up, but first, and for reasons of expediency, there’s a new project I’m involved with that can get everyone out there photographing and for a very specific reason, a chance to get your work into print!

The Lark Ascending
Friends of Skomer and Skokholm
This Sunday saw the annual Friends of Skomer and Skokholm meeting at Bishop’s Cleeve near Cheltenham. It was the first time I’ve been but will certainly be making it a diary event from now on. Not withstanding a wealth of current information on the state of the Island’s wildlife and updates on current plans for some major changes, particularly to Skokholm, it was a chance to meet up with some old friends from my time running photographic trips to this part of Wales.
Around Every Corner – A New Publication
This week ‘Around Every Corner’ is published. It’s very much a visual book and looks at the landscape and wildlife of the County Borough of Caerphilly in a slightly different way than most of traditional landscape books might do. It’s a publication that very much celebrates the landscape and wildlife of an area that is often overlooked in favour of its near neighbour, the Brecon Beacons. It also shows what the Landscape Services within Caerphilly County Council are protecting and promoting, often via the grant system available through the European Community.
