Following on from the previous post this set once again aims to give a sense of the broader context in which the geese are experienced.
The Greenland barnacles and Greenland whitefronts that are found on Islay are site faithful, so the place in which they are encountered becomes significant. I’ve spent time on the Solway with the Svalbard population of barnacles and although they are scientifically the same species and indistinguishable from the birds found on Islay, they very rarely mix and in thousands of years time could even grow to exhibit slight differences arising in a sub species.
It’s a different experience on Islay than on the Solway and to state something of this is what I’m aiming to do. These images were all taken on the north of the island around the RSPB reserve of Gruinart and further north towards Ardnave.
