Kittiwakes at the grotto – Part 2

DSC_3388-2

… So to the evening session and a good couple of hours with the Kittiwakes but this time with an overcast sky.

When you have such differing conditions within a few hours on the same day it opens up different ways of working and these overcast conditions were no better or worse than the blue sky of a few hours earlier. No hash shadows to contend with and a beautifully even illumination throughout. It was a chance to work them against the sea and the cliffs.

The herring gulls were giving them a fair amount of grief during the time I was there and I would have loved to have spent at least a whole day from dawn till dusk with them – maybe next year when I hope to get over to the Farnes after so many years ofpromising! The day ended with a kiss of light on Marsden Rock and the grotto.
