An early morning start saw me at Greylake RSPB reserve for soon after 7.00am. Very quite save for Reed and Sedge Warblers on the reeds along the paths to the hide and some mating swallows from the hide.
Moving on to Shapwick Heath for the late afternoon and early evening where Bitterns were making occasional flights across the reserve and in the late afternoon I counted twenty Hobbies ‘hawking’. Very occasionally one would move lower and give a chance of some photographs but most of the time they were feeding high above the reserve and well out of range. Whitethroats were plentiful with the occasional Garden Warbler and very elusive Blackcaps, singing well but near impossible to find as the trees are nearly in full canopy. In the evening I moved over to Tealham Moor where I spent the night.
