Mull – For Lunch With a White-tailed Eagle

We travelled from Walney to Oban on the Friday, stayed in a B&B and then headed over to Mull on the Saturday morning ferry. A flypast Arctic Skua was a bonus between the mainland and Mull, with dozens of Kittiwakes and the odd winter Guillemot.

Getting the morning ferry allowed a little time on Mull and we lunched (long lunch!) at the north end of Loch Spelve by Strathcoil. As luck would have it scanning the opposite shore turned up a juvenile White-tailed Eagle. It stayed for a good hour, giving fine scope views, before moving a little further back and landing on a stone wall. That’s my first ever Eagle on a wall! Soon after it took flight and melted into the trees beyond. It was fortunate that a Hoodie (Hooded Crow) was close by giving some sense the the size of the Eagle.

And so to the end of Mull and over to Iona on the Loch Buie.
